01 How much does CoCounsel cost?

Thomson Reuters does not publish a fixed CoCounsel price — pricing is configured online by firm size, jurisdiction, and contract term (for law firms up to 10 attorneys) or quoted by a sales rep for larger firms. As a reference point, the Westlaw Advantage with CoCounsel Essentials plan for a solo attorney with All States & Federal coverage is $639.20/user/month on a 1-year term, or $639/user/month on a 3-year term (18% savings), per Thomson Reuters' public configurator in June 2026. AI-only CoCounsel Essentials is the lowest tier and CoCounsel Legal (complete access) is the highest.

02 What are the CoCounsel plans?

There are four plans. CoCounsel Essentials is the AI assistant on its own (research, drafting, document review, summaries, timelines, agentic workflows). Westlaw Advantage with CoCounsel Essentials adds Westlaw primary-law research, KeyCite, and litigation tools. Practical Law Dynamic Tool Set with CoCounsel Essentials adds Practical Law's expert-created content. CoCounsel Legal is complete access to all of the above.

03 Why can't I find a CoCounsel price list?

Thomson Reuters prices CoCounsel through an online configurator rather than a published price sheet. You select your sector, number of attorneys, jurisdiction(s), and term, and the tool returns a price. Online self-serve pricing is available for law firms with up to 10 attorneys; firms above that are quoted by a sales representative.

04 Is CoCounsel the same as Casetext CoCounsel?

It is the successor. Thomson Reuters acquired Casetext (the original CoCounsel) in 2023 and retired the standalone Casetext product on March 31, 2025, integrating the technology into its CoCounsel Legal plans. If you previously used Casetext CoCounsel, you are now on Thomson Reuters' CoCounsel.

05 Does CoCounsel have a free plan or trial?

There is no permanent free plan. Thomson Reuters offers product demonstrations for prospective customers, but ongoing use requires a paid subscription. Confirm current trial availability directly with Thomson Reuters.

06 How do contract terms affect the price?

CoCounsel plans are sold on 1-, 2-, or 3-year terms, and longer terms lower the per-month price. Thomson Reuters' configurator showed a 12% discount on a 2-year term and an 18% discount on a 3-year term versus the 1-year rate.

07 Does the price change by jurisdiction?

Yes. The Westlaw Advantage and CoCounsel Legal plans include primary-law coverage for the circuits or jurisdictions you select, and the price scales with that coverage. The figures cited here use All States & Federal coverage; narrower coverage can cost less.

08 How does CoCounsel compare to Harvey AI?

CoCounsel is sold by Thomson Reuters with deep Westlaw and Practical Law integration and self-serve online pricing for smaller firms. Harvey AI targets larger firms with custom-trained models and typically requires enterprise seat minimums and annual contracts. Firms already invested in Westlaw often find CoCounsel the more natural fit.

09 Does CoCounsel auto-renew?

Yes. CoCounsel and other Thomson Reuters products auto-renew annually. Multiple customers report not receiving adequate renewal reminders, and Thomson Reuters does not accept cancellations after the renewal date has passed. You must cancel within the specified window — some products require notice 30 days prior to renewal — or you will be locked into another full year.

10 How hard is it to cancel CoCounsel?

Customers report the cancellation process is extremely difficult. Thomson Reuters requires specific documentation, has narrow cancellation windows, and does not accept cancellations after renewal dates.
